A Masters module one proposal built around a rigorous critical paper review
Critical technical analysis and presentation completed for module one
As told to Inkspire by Hasham Al Quraish, with their consent to share this account. See all case studies.
The Challenge
For the first research module of his Masters, Hasham was asked to critically analyse an existing published study on vibration induced by cross flow in heat exchanger tube bundles, the foundation most supervisors expect a student to demonstrate before proposing original work of their own.
The Outcome
Working through Stage 03, the base paper’s actual experimental design, comparing a single flexible tube with and without internal flow inside a triangular bundle of 37 tubes, was broken down into its real methodological choices and limitations rather than simply summarised, then translated into a spoken presentation script built to walk an audience that had not read the paper through those choices clearly. The module was completed with a defensible critical analysis and a presentation ready to deliver, the foundation his later, original proposal would be built on.
